A Manganiyar voice from the Thar — Maand, Panihari, bhajan and Sufi, the songs his father and grandfather sang, carried from village courtyards to festival stages.
Manganiyar families of western Rajasthan have sung for patron households for generations — at births, weddings and village gatherings. Kheta Khan grew up inside that tradition, and he still sings it.
Kheta Khan comes from Baiya village in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer district and belongs to the Manganiyar community — hereditary musicians of the Thar desert whose families have long sung for Rajput patron households.
His group still names a royal family as its patrons, and still sings at the moments that tradition was built for: a child's birth, a wedding, a new home.
He began learning folk music at around ten, the way it has always been taught in his community: no notation, no classroom — only listening to the elders and singing back.
What he sings today is the repertoire of his father and grandfather, in the Marwari folk style of the Merasi gharana.

He leads Kheta Khan & Group, a Manganiyar ensemble built on dholak, harmonium, khartal and the bowed kamaicha. Their sets move between bhajans for Hindu deities, Sufi songs and the folk melodies of the Thar.
Some members also play guitar, drums or synth, which lets the group cross into fusion stages without leaving the old songs behind.
Since 2024 his official channel has released a run of studio singles with composer Kailash Jangid — Suwatiyo, Boli Pyari Lage, Chirmi and Jug Me Jiyo Jaisan — each one a traditional Rajasthani song given a cinematic video.
In 2025 he also featured on the fusion track Tu Mera with Bandish, and his shows now travel from Rajasthan into Gujarat.
